JSJ Design was appointed to develop the interiors for Unity Café, a vibrant community-focused coffee shop located in Leytonstone. The brief was to create a space that felt welcoming and inclusive — a café that would become a hub for locals and visitors alike.

Unity Café aimed to combine great coffee, fresh food, and friendly service with a design that reflects the spirit of its name: bringing people together in a warm, uplifting environment.

CONCEPT DIRECTION

JSJ Design crafted a concept that balances playful colour, natural materials, and thoughtful detailing to create a bright, informal space with character and charm.

• The palette features earthy greens, soft pastels and warm timbers, creating an instantly inviting atmosphere.
• The design makes the most of natural light, with large windows and simple, clean lines that enhance the sense of openness.
• Carefully selected finishes and furniture ensure the café feels fresh and contemporary, while also being hardwearing and practical for daily use.

The space was designed to appeal to a broad clientele — from families and remote workers to casual diners — encouraging them to linger and connect.

• Space planning to optimise flow and maximise seating without compromising comfort
• Selection of all finishes, furniture, lighting, and fixtures to achieve the desired welcoming aesthetic
• Technical drawing package and detailed specifications to support the fit-out

Sustainability and longevity were key considerations in material selection, reflecting the café’s values.

OUTCOME

Unity Café opened to an enthusiastic response from the local community and has quickly established itself as a popular spot on the Leytonstone scene.
